This year, we are excited to use the infamous "Crushed Rock Classic" course for the Gravel Grinder.  This 6.1 mile loop features 2 gravel climbs, jeep trails, mowed prairie, and a paved descent on each lap.   This is the perfect course for beginners and experts alike.   The varied terrain and landscape, make this a one of a kind course.   

All Categories will race 5 laps (approximately 30 miles), with the entire field departing at 8:30.  Please have your number on and ready to go by 8:15.

This also a perfect event to have friends and family hangout and cheer on each lap up the climb on Templeton hill to Sunny Heights from the family friendly race campus.  

CATEGORIES & MEDALS:

  • All IOWA residents participating are eligible for medals.  
  • Medals go to the top 3 in each division for both of the race lengths

  • Tandem   *All members of a tandem team must register and pay an entry fee.

  • Bathrooms will be available onsite
  • Sunny Heights will have Food and Beverages available for purchase
  • Water will be provided by Iowa Games
  • There will be plenty of spots to spectate, so bring your fan club

PARKING & DIRECTIONS:


  • Race Headquarters p/b  Sunny Heights will be located inside the Sunny Heights Farm, 17641 Templton Rd, Ames IA 50010
  • If you are coming in from out of town on  i35, take Exit 116 and head West on 190th St.   
  • Continue .6 miles West until you reach the intersection with Dayton Ave, then take a right (North) on Dayton
  • You will hit a T intersection which is 180th St. -  Take a LEFT (west) on 180th St. 
  • Continue 1,500 ft then Turn RIGHT on the Templeton RD (just past the Skunk River bridge)
  • Sunny Heights is just up the hill to the left 2,000 ft.
  • Limited parking is available at Sunny Heights,  and at the bottom of the hill at the boat launch area.
  • Look for a friendly volunteer to help!

Bathrooms and Parking will be available onsite.  
  • Parking closes at 7:45, with overflow parking at the intersection of Templeton and 180th, 500 meters south of the start/finish line
