Iowa Memorial Cup Race Series

The Ames Grand Prix will feature the Downtown Ames Twilight Criterium on Saturday, June 29th, followed by a 1 kilometer Ames Fitness Criterium @ ISU Research Park on Sunday, June 30th.  Ames Velo is excited for the 3rd year of this annual event and to showcase all that the city of Ames has to offer.  We have designed this weekend of racing to make it an enjoyable experience for racers and their families.  
​Both courses are conveniently located inside Ames, just minutes apart.  We hope you have a chance to enjoy the wide variety of amenities available through the weekend.  Don't forget to bring the whole family for the Kids Races!

Main Street Twilight Criterium
Saturday June 29th

This .7 mile flat course is fun and fast.  Excellent quality roads and the Saturday Main Street vibe will make this a memorable afternoon and evening.  All shops, restaurants and bars will be open during the race, so it's a perfect chance to bring family and friends to the races.

Ames Fitness Criterium at
Research Park

Sunday June 29th

This 1 kilometer technical crit will make for some dynamic racing.  With many vantage points, it also makes for a great race to spectate.  The south end of the course features some of the beautiful new recently completed architecture, including the McFarland Clinic,  Ames Fitness, and the Tedesco Park.  To learn more about ISU Research Park click here.

There will be a .5 Lap and 1 Lap race (based on age).  Helmets and smiles required!  All kids receive medals!

Iowa Memorial Cup Race Series (IMCRS)

The RIDEBIKER IMCRS Leader's Jersey will be on display in each category throughout the weekend.  Leader's will attempt to defend their jersey across the two days of the Ames Grand Prix.  Points will be tabulated on Sunday, after the circuit race, and an IMCRS podium ceremony will include jersey presentation to the leaders going in to the 3rd round of the series in Des Moines.

Driving Directions from Major Highways

MAIN STREET CRITERIUM
Coming from the I35 North:
  • Take Exit 133 for "13th Street" 
  • Turn right (West) on 13th
  • Proceed 2 miles to Duff Ave.
  • Turn Left on Duff Ave and drive South on Duff to E. Lincoln Way
  • Turn Right on E. Lincoln Way and drive West to Kellogg
  • Turn Right on Kellogg and drive North over the train tracks

Coming North from I30
  • Take Exit 148 for "Duff Ave."
  • Proceed North on to Duff Ave. for 1.2 miles to E. Lincoln Way
  • Turn Left on E. Linclon Way and drive West to Kellogg
  • Turn Right on Kellogg and drive north over the train tracks

AMES FITNESS CRITERIUM
Coming South from I30
  • Take Exit 146 for "University Blvd."
  • Proceed South on University Blvd. for ~ .7miles
  • Primary Parking is at McFarland Clinic, and Overflow Parking is at the Workiva South Parking Lot (SEE MAP BELOW). Both are on the EAST side of University Blvd.

Main Street Twilight Criterium Parking

  • Primary parking areas are highlighted in yellow.
  • The largest lots are located just south of the course between Clark & Kellogg, and Kellogg & Duff. 
  • The easiest way to access those is from the south off of Lincoln.
  • To access the lots on the North side of the course by Torrent, Use Duff Ave to go north to 7th, then proceed West to Clark.  Then turn left (South) on to Clark.  Then Left on 5th.
